Vagabond
Vagabond is a two-player battle of wits you can play free in the browser. Each side has four checkers on a 6×6 board. Slide a piece any distance along the grid, never diagonally and never through another checker, and get all four of yours in a line: across, down, or diagonally.
There is no luck and nothing hidden. White moves first. A piece can travel as far as the open path allows, and it can round corners, so a blocked file is not always a blocked piece. The game ends the moment one side completes a line of four.
How to Play
- Tap one of your checkers, then tap a free node it can reach.
- A checker walks along the grid lines only. Any piece of either colour blocks the path.
- After every move the board is checked for four in a row, including diagonals.
- The first player to line up all four checkers wins.
The first visit is a short scripted tutorial from the opening position, so you leave it already familiar with the board you will always see. You can replay it any time from the question mark in the header.
Ways to Play
- Quick play against named bots: Pip wanders, Marlow trades blow for blow, and Sable looks a few roads ahead.
- Pass & play on one device.
- Online against a stranger, or a friend with a short code. Online games use a 60-second move clock.
Finished games award Miles, a single score that only goes up. Ranks climb from Drifter to Vagabond as you play. Nothing is gated: a hard bot stays available, and a loss still pays.
